Case study:
Push notifications
The product
Cornershop by Uber, a grocery delivery mobile app
The challenge
Data showed demand and order volume were higher than the Shopper supply available. We needed more Shoppers to log on, accept orders, and deliver them within the promised time frame.
The thought process
I worked with the operations team to create financial incentives to encourage Shoppers to log on and accept orders. Once these were in place, I created a series of push notifications, directed at the Shoppers, to drive engagement and boost their earnings during high-demand hours. Top thought on my mind: Make messages feel fun, urgent, and valuable, all within 120 characters or less. In this case, less really was more.
The approach
Wrote real-time push notifications triggered by Shopper behavior and location
Balanced brand tone with performance goals (engagement, open rate, activation)
Used personalization, incentives, and playful voice to drive action
The final experience
Increased open rates on incentive notifications
Stronger brand engagement through consistent, recognizable brand personality and voice
Helped drive action during high-value delivery windows
End users were positively impacted, as their wait time decreased
